Guzman y Gomez drives expansion with 30 restaurants planned

More than 30 new restaurants are in the pipeline as Guzman y Gomez drives expansion across the east coast of Australia.

In the line-up right now, five drive-thru outlets to open between August 2021 and July 2022.

The burgeoning Mexican fast food chain has already unveiled 23 new restaurants in the home market since early 2020.

Now it is announcing opportunities in Hervey Bay, Port Macquarie, Mackay, Cairns and Tamworth.

GYG founder and CEO Steven Marks said “Usually we have franchisees on a waitlist for two years or more before we make locations available so I’m really proud to make these five restaurants available to young entrepreneurs wanting to make their mark on the world.”

In March the business turned its attention to boosting the staffing numbers for the growing chain of restaurants. The popular QSR chain released a video featuring Steven Marks appealing directly to new recruits as the business geared up to employ a minimum of 200 hires in March.

Last year the business hit a mega milestone, achieving a billion dollar turnover accrued since the chain opened in Sydney’s Newtown in 2006.

GYG now has more than 150 restaurants across Australia, Singapore, Japan and the most recent addition, the US.

At the beginning of 2020 the business ventured into north America with a suburban Chicago store opening.
