GYG hits mega milestone, $1billion revenue since opening
Mexican fast food chain Guzman y Gomez has passed a mega milestone, turning over $1 billion since opening in Sydney 14 years ago.
Founder and CEO Steven Marks said “Guzman y Gomez opened in Newtown in 2006, we now operate over 140 restaurants and drive thrus across Australia, Japan, Singapore and the United States. Last week we surpassed $1 billion in revenue, and I could not be more proud. It’s an absolute credit to our incredible franchisees, restaurant managers, crew and Hola Central staff and we’re definitely not stopping!
“Guzman y Gomez has always been focussed on exceptional food, our culture and our people, it’s genuinely a recipe for success that can’t be copied or replicated, it comes from the heart and is built into the DNA of the brand.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the dedication, passion and hard work put forward by teams each and every day and we have no doubt we’ll hit our next $1billion even faster,” he added.
GYG’s chief marketing officer Lara Thom shared the good news in a LinkedIn post.
“It’s a credit to founder Steven Marks & co-founder Robert Hazan who created the brand and built it alongside our franchisees, restaurant managers, crew and Hola Central staff. Everyone in the GYG family truly believes we are changing the perception of fast food where our guests can eat great food that tastes as good as it looks. Genuinely one of the most exciting businesses to be part of during such uncertain times. Thank you to all our guests & crew who continue to support us,” she wrote.
Menu innovation has included the launch of the $3 taco in April this year, which Marks considers the major product launch for the brand, and its 100 per cent clean food ethos.
There was another major milestone for the brand earlier this year too. In January GYG unveiled its first US store, a flagship outlet sited outside Chicago.
